Governor signs Belmont Home Rule Petitions
BOSTON – Governor Patrick has signed three Home Rule Petitions into law pertaining to Belmont. The measures had previously been passed by Belmont Town Meeting and required state approval. The three bills and their effects are:
1. H. 3780, “An Act Authorizing the Town of Belmont to Grant Licenses for the Sale of Wines and Malt Beverages to be Drunk on the Premises,” which authorizes eight additional beer and wine licenses for restaurants.
2. H. 3656, “An Act Authorizing the Town of Belmont to Grant Licenses for the Sale of Alcoholic Beverages not to be Drunk on the Premises,” which authorizes three additional retail liquor licenses (one full, two wine and beers). Existing licenses have had a positive impact on the town’s economic development, resulting in the request for an increase.
3. H. 3657, “An Act Establishing the Position of the Town Administrator in the Town of Belmont,” which authorizes the new powers to be granted to the position of Belmont Town Administrator.
“This is another good example of elected officials working together to getting things done,” said Senator Brownsberger.
Representative Rogers said, “through persistent action the Legislature passed and the Governor signed these important measures. These laws bring to reality the will of Town Meeting and help Belmont move forward.”
